Congenital Hypertrophic Pyloric Stenosis

Abstract
For the 22-year period from May 1973 to December 1995, 53 consecutive cases of congenital hypertrophic pyloric stenosis were surgically treated at Department of Surgery, Saint Benedict Hospital.
Congenital hypertrophic pyloric stenosis is one of the most common surgical problemes in infancy.
The age and sex distribution, family and birth history, clinical symptoms with prognosis etc, were reviewed.
@ES The results were as follows :
@EN 1) Most of the patients (41 cases, 87%) represented symptoms within 5 weeks of age.
2) Male was predominated than female by the ratio of 6.6 : 1
3) The first baby was 31 cases (58.5%)
4) Non-bile stained, projectile vomiting was noted in 52 cases (98.1%).
5) The olive shaped mass was felt in right upper quadrant of abdomen in 48 cases (92.3%)
6) The result of Fredet-Ramstedt pyloromyotomy was effective and excellent.
A brief review of literature was made.
